When going through the 251 passing in the fundamental course.

https://www.play-creatively.com/view/courses/piano-fundamentals-3/248334-piano-fundamentals-6-lesson-6/1230980-amazing-grace

I got confused somewhere

Lets assume I am playing on KEY C

and I want to go to G then I can do 251 which is Am7 D7 then back to G.

Now lets assume I want to go to Dm will i do Em7 A7 or E7 A7 then to Dm ?

Please help

For now, use Em7 to A7 to Dm.

Understand that there are mainly two types of 2-5-1's.

  1. Major 2-5-1 which land on a major chord for the "I"

    eg. Am7 (ii) D7 (V) G7 (I)

  2. Minor 2-5-1 which land on a minor chord for the "i."

    eg. Amin7 b5 (ii) D7 (V) Gm7 (i)

You will learn this as you move through the Fundamentals. In your example You're first progression is going to a major chord (G) but your second is going to a minor (Dm) which may be why it's a little confusing. Feel free to reach out with more questions

  3. I believe I emailed you answer sometime back, but just in case this helps others.
